Bowater Building Products – the UK’s leading manufacturer of energy efficient doors, windows and fenestration packages – has won a 2010 Green Apple Award for System10 SmartSash, its revolutionary PVC-U system. The awards are awarded annually by the Green Organisation, an independent, non-political, non-profit organization, to recognize those companies whose products enhance the environment and promote sustainability – qualities that SmartSash embodies.

The construction industry has argued for some time that there is a need for a single standard for responsibly sourcing building products to assist the specification process. The Code for Sustainable Homes states that developers can achieve points in the building materials category by proving that building products such as windows have been responsibly sourced. Currently, different window materials receive different code points, based on different ‘evidence’ of responsible sourcing.
