Responsible Sourcing

responsible_sourcingThe construction industry has argued for some time that there is a need for a single standard for responsibly sourcing building products to assist the specification process. The Code for Sustainable Homes states that developers can achieve points in the building materials category by proving that building products such as windows have been responsibly sourced. Currently, different window materials receive different code points, based on different ‘evidence’ of responsible sourcing.

A top treble for Bowater at G10 Awards

g10-winnersAn excellent showing from Bowater Building Products and its customers in the G10 awards yesterday (December 2nd) saw three fantastic victories in some of the most keenly fought categories.

In these, the seventh awards since their inception, Bowater Building Products itself won the award for Energy Efficiency Initiative of the Year for System10’s radical new SmartSash products. The SmartSash system enables PVC-U doors and windows to be fitted now to currently comply with the Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) Levels 3, 4 or 5 – and then be simply, easily and inexpensively upgraded to Level 6 standard at a later date. It also allows for much larger sash sizes, while maintaining thermal performance.

Windows installed using WHS Halo products are designed to conserve fuel and power in buildings, by limiting heat loss through the fabric of the building (U-value). They can be central towards the achievement of a zero carbon home which requires a category six under the energy element in the Code for Sustainable Homes.
