A condition survey found that the school, based in rural Wiltshire, needed to replace its curtain walling and the single glazed metal framed windows – many were fixed shut because the hinges had failed. Initially 18 bays of curtain walling and glazing were to be replaced until the discovery of blue asbestos – fixed behind old panels as a firebreak – disrupted the works timetable. As the work was scheduled for the holidays, it was vital to complete the schedule before the 685 pupils returned, so only seven bays were replaced – with the remainder to be completed the following break.
“The school had seen System10 in action and were happy with the quality and the finish of the product,” commented Joe Wiltshire of Bailey Partnership, the design consultants brought in to oversee the work. “The thermal efficiency of the new System 10 curtain walling was also very important because Wiltshire Council wants to meet or exceed the requirements of the Building Regulations.”
System10 Curtain Walling offers U-Values ranging from 1.5 W/m2K, with 28mm glazing units, to a superb 1.0 W/m2K with 32mm triple-glazed units (both based on a 50mm mullion). It combines fully with either PVC-U or aluminium windows and doors so that buildings can be fully upgraded regardless of system requirements. The system has been extensively tested at the industry recognised Wintech facility in line with Centre for Window and Cladding Technology (CWCT) test criteria.
A full range of RAL colour options provides the complete choice of design finishes. The company also offers a full drawing design service, taking schemes from design concept through to final specification.
The System10 curtain walling system which is designed to meet the demands of large scale refurbishment projects typically found in many of our educational buildings and office blocks has recently been upgraded. It is a highly energy efficient system that, when combined with the System10 energy efficient window and door range can achieve a U-value of 1.0W/m2K.
Bowater Architectural offers a design and drawing service together with advice and guidance in the form of CPD programmes and technical design.
