System10 casts cool gaze over hot fighters
Wednesday, 23 March 2011 21:37
Visitors to the Spitfire and Hurricane Memorial Museum Building at Manston in Kent can now enjoy the cafeteria there in comfort thanks to System10 casement windows from WHS Halo – the UK’s leading manufacturer of energy efficient doors, windows and fenestration packages.
The museum’s Merlin Cafeteria was opened in 1993, but the glazed area had created a problem for the south-facing building – solar gain overheated the area on sunny days and warped the mahogany frames on the doors and windows, which consequently became cold and draughty in winter.
Local fabricator and installer Stroud Windows replaced these with System10 top opening casement windows and two double French doorsets; all with a rosewood foil finish to match the rest of the woodwork in the building and double-glazed with Planitherm 4S heat-reflective glass.

Wednesday, 23 March 2011 21:40
Bowater Projects – one of the UK’s leading installers of energy efficient architectural facades and entrance systems – now offers bespoke solar shading and photovoltaic (PV) panel options for its System10 Curtain Waling. Both products – which are only available as ‘specials’ – provide a simple, low maintenance way to cut both energy bills and carbon dioxide emissions.
Aesthetically pleasing, flexible and lightweight, the solar shading provides a quick-fix and inexpensive solution to offices and classrooms that suffer from excessive solar gain. It helps maintain room temperatures at around 24˚C – reducing the use of air-conditioning units and so reducing energy bills and CO2 emissions – as total solar gain is limited to 35 W/m2 (in accordance with Part L2 of the Building Regulations).
